Worship and Music

St John's Choir practising

Music plays an important role in worship at St John’s. The church prides itself on offering worship in an eclectic variety of styles. At the All Age Service, the Children’s Choir perform one or two simple pieces generally with piano accompaniment. At the central service of Parish Communion there is a range of music in the singing of which the whole congregation participate. Other parts of the service are sung by the choir alone offering the congregation the opportunity to reflect, meditate or pray.

Choral Evensong is regularly offered, led by one of our choirs on Sunday, Thursday and occasional Wednesday evenings during term time. There is a timeless sense of beauty and simplicity in this quiet, ancient service. On occasions, the adults of the Chamber Choir also sing for the night service of Compline.

The choirs also contribute to various special services throughout the year and particularly during major festivals such as Christmas and Easter.
